Cameroon’s cotton production is expected to reach a new high in 2022

Cameroon’s ecomatin website reported on February 2 that the cotton production of Cameroon’s Cotton Development Company (sodecoton) is expected to reach a record high of 370000 tons in 2022, with a year-on-year increase of 3.6%. There are two main reasons for the growth. One is that the company has enough cash to pay for cotton purchase, which increases farmers’ confidence in planting cotton; The price is 255.0 US dollars per kilogram of cotton in Central Africa, which is higher. The company plans to increase cotton production to 600000 tons by 2025.

Cameroonian cotton development company was established in 1974 with a registered capital of 23.643 billion CFA francs, with the Cameroonian government holding 59%. The cotton industry in Cameroon is mainly distributed in Adamawa, the north and the far north. It is one of the pillars of the Kazakh economy, accounting for 2.5% of the economy and 4% of exports.
