Corn production growth in South Africa in 2021

The South African crop estimation Commission (CEC) released the final yield report of summer crops in 2021 on Thursday. Summer crops in South Africa include corn, sunflower seeds, peanuts and sorghum.

The report shows that South Africa’s corn production in 2021 is expected to be 16.23 million tons, slightly higher than the estimated 16.21 million tons last month, an increase of 6.08% over 15.3 million tons last year. The output of white jade rice for human consumption is expected to be 8.609 million tons, the same as the previous forecast; The output of yellow corn for feed production is expected to be 7.625 million tons, higher than the forecast of 7.602 million tons last month.

Sorghum output is expected to be 214000 tons, higher than the forecast of 210000 tons last month and 158000 tons last year. The output of sunflower seeds is expected to remain unchanged at 677000 tons, down from 788000 tons last year.

As for winter crops, the fourth forecast released by CEC shows that the wheat output is expected to be 2.117 million tons, higher than 2.099 million tons from last month and slightly lower than 2.12 million tons last year.
