Grain planting area in Switzerland will increase in 2021

According to the Swiss federal government website on May 17, in 2021, Switzerland’s grain planting area reached 146400 hectares, an increase of 3% over 2020. Among them, the wheat planting area increased by 5%, oats increased by 7%, potatoes decreased by 2% and sugar beets decreased by 8%. The number of farms fell further to 48864, while organic agriculture continued to grow. The number of dairy cows tends to be stable, and the number of poultry continues to rise, with an increase of 1.1%. Swiss farm workers numbered 150200, an increase of 0.5%.
