Thai rice export growth

According to the report of Thailand world daily on September 26, Thailand’s rice export showed a growth trend in the second half of 2021, with an export growth of 7.35% from June to July. The main markets for export growth are South Africa, China, Yemen and Iraq. Most of the exported rice types are steamed rice, white rice and brown rice. According to the statistics of Thailand’s foreign trade department applying for rice export license in August, a total of 831260 tons were exported in August, an increase of 133.14% over the same period last year. In September, 631363 tons will be exported, an increase of 61.78% over the same period last year. It is expected that Thailand will be able to achieve the goal of 6 million tons of rice export this year.

The main factor for the increase of Thai rice export is that the increase of Thai rice production in 2010-2021 has led to the decline of rice price. Coupled with the depreciation of Thai baht, the gap between Thai rice price and its main competitors Vietnam and India has been narrowed and more competitive. Another factor is that the quality and standards of Thai rice are better than those of competitors, and exporters can deliver to customers on time even during the epidemic.
