U.S. rice sown area revised down to 2.34 million acres in 2022

The U.S. Department of Agriculture released seeded acreage data showing that 2.34 million acres of U.S. rice were sown this year, down from the March 31 forecast of 2.452 million acres, down from 2.53 million acres the previous year and down from analysts’ expectations of 2.454 million acres.

USDA’s quarterly inventory report showed U.S. brown rice stocks at all sites as of June 1, 2022, at 56.6 million U.S. quintals, down 10% from the previous year, based on the results of a survey conducted in the first two weeks of June. On-farm stocks were 5.87 million U.S. quintals and off-farm stocks were 50.7 million U.S. quintals. Finished rice stocks for all parts were 6.01 million U.S. quintals as of June 1, up 15% from a year earlier.
