Vietnam focuses on 14 types of fruit trees, exports to exceed $5 billion

Vietnam expects fruit exports to exceed US$5 billion in 2025 and reach about US$6.5 billion in 2023, according to Vietnamese media.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) recently approved the 2025-2030 Key Fruit Tree Program, in which Vietnam will focus on developing 14 key fruit trees, including dragon fruit, mango, banana, lychee, longan, orange, pomelo, pineapple, rambutan, durian, pineapple honey, passion fruit, avocado and saké.

The scale of planting these fruit trees is expected to reach 960,000 hectares in 2025, with fruit production reaching 1.1-1.2 million tons; and 1 million hectares in 2030, with fruit production reaching 1.3-1.4 million tons.

Statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs show that from January to August this year, the export value of dragon fruit was the highest among Vietnam’s fruit exports, reaching nearly 463 million USD. They were followed by bananas and durian, with export value of 237 million USD and 158 million USD respectively.
