Chilean fruit exporters’ association partners with “hungry” to promote fresh prunes in China

After the perfect end of the 2022/23 Chilean carrion season, Chilean prunes, another Chilean product with a very promising future in the Chinese fruit market, are taking over. This season, the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX) has partnered with Chinese takeaway platform “HungryMall” to promote fresh prunes in China.

According to the Chilean SimFruit website, the promotion includes 500 riders from HungryMall carrying delivery boxes with Chilean prunes on them as part of the urban landscape in downtown Shanghai. In addition, during the promotion, consumers simply type “prunes are in season” in the HungryFruit search box, you can directly enter the Chilean prune theme page, to receive coupons to enjoy fresh prunes direct to the same city.

According to the introduction, Chilean prunes are derived from the European prune variety, which was used to process into dried fruit. In China, the sweet fresh prunes are popular among consumers, and the import volume of fresh prunes in China has increased dramatically in the past 10 years. Now, as a health food, Chilean prunes have become a favorite among 20- to 30-year-old female consumers in first- and second-tier cities in China.

In recent years, as female consumers’ awareness of the nutritional properties of Chilean prunes continues to rise, the fruit’s sales have grown steadily on the hungry platform. 2022, cumulative sales of Chilean prunes on the hungry platform exceeded 10 million yuan (about $1.4 million). In particular, cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou have a fairly high level of acceptance of Chilean prunes. HungryMall expects sales of Chilean prunes to increase among women in other first- and second-tier cities in China this season.
