This is the first time that Chinese rubber tree tissue culture seedlings have gone abroad and settled in Cambodia, and it is also another achievement of China Cambodia agricultural practical cooperation. The efficient and rapid propagation technology system of self rooted young clones (tissue culture seedlings) of Hevea brasiliensis was independently developed and established by the rubber Institute of the Chinese Academy of Thermal Sciences, which realized the large-scale production and application of tissue culture seedlings of Hevea brasiliensis for the first time in the world. The technology has also won the “major new technology for agriculture and rural areas in China in 2021″.
According to the introduction of the rubber Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, compared with the old budding clones, the tissue culture seedlings have restored the young nature of the seedlings, with a growth rate of 10% to 20% and a yield increase of 20% to 30%. They have been popularized and applied in Hainan, Guangdong, Yunnan and other places for more than 20000 mu. They are a new generation of dominant planting materials.
This product and technical cooperation was carried out under the support of the “the Belt and Road” international natural rubber industry science and Technology Innovation Institute and the Lancang Mekong Project “Lancang Mekong five countries’ natural rubber cultivation and processing technology integration demonstration”, which is an upgraded version of China Cambodia rubber breeding.
In the next step, the rubber Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences will send experts to Cambodia to carry out training on bagging seedling raising, cultivation and planting techniques, guide experiments and demonstrations, deepen Lancang Mekong cooperation, and help the sustainable development of the local natural rubber industry.
